Description	This bronze dix (ten) centimes coin was minted during the Second Empire of France and reign of Napoleon III. The obverse features the laureate head of Napoleon III, and the reverse bears an eagle. The mint mark "A" under the eagle means that the coin was minted in Paris. Napoleon III became emperor of France in 1852. On May 5, 1862, the Mexicans won the battle of Puebla against the French who sought to control Mexico. Napoleon III's plan failed, and he lost a five year war with Mexico. He was also involved in both the Crimean War and the Franco-Prussian War, and he enacted more liberal policies throughout the latter half of his reign. In 1870, however, he was deposed after his defeat at the Battle of Sedan in which he surrendered himself and his army. He then spent the last three years of his life in exile.
